A metaphorical reframing of brand as an operating system — the interface layer between AI agents and human customers — rather than as a direct-to-consumer identity. Introduced by Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen at Adobe Summit 2026 in the context of the agentic-ai era, where brands are increasingly evaluated and recommended by machines before reaching human decision-makers.
The OS metaphor implies a shift from “how the brand looks” (UI) to “how the brand processes and responds” (OS layer) — governing both machine-readable information signals for ai-discoverability and the emotional anchoring that human customers still require.
